- Put the shampoo into an old sock to make it lather more (and also easier to hold onto!) Lather your dog, scrub, rinse well and let 'em shake. This is always less messy if done outside, but please make sure your canine companion does not get a chill due either to cold weather or cold water from the hose. Dry with a towel if you like, or let your friend air dry.
